The Valkyries carry out the will of Odinn (Odin, Wotan) in determining the victors of the battle, and the course of the war. Their primary duty is to choose the bravest of those who have been slain, gathering the souls of dying heros or warriors found deserving of afterlife in Valhalla. They scout the battle ground in search of mortals worthy of the grand hall. If you are deemed by the Valkyries as un-worthy of the hall of Valhalla you will be received after death by the goddess Hel in a cheerless underground world.
The most famous of the valkyries was Brunhilde, celebrated in the ancient norse songs (Edda's) and more recently, in Wagner's famous opera The Ring of the Nibelung.
In the opera, Brunhilde is the daughter of Odin the king of the gods and Erda (Mother Earth).
Against Odin's orders, Brunhilde tries to save the life of Sigmund and as punishment, Odin puts her in a deep sleep to be given to the first man who comes to waken her. She demands that she be surrounded by a circle of fire so that only a man who knew no fear could pass through to reach her. This Odin grants.
Several years later, the hero Sigfrid (Sigmund's son) passes through the flames and awakens Brunhilde with a kiss and claims her as his bride. The two fall in love and pledge eternal fidelity to each other.
Brunhilde's lovely repaint and gown were designed and created by Traveler.
All of her factory paint was removed and replaced with artist quality acrylics and sealers.
Her speaking eyes are a vivid blue and she was given just enough shading to replicate a natural face.
Her dress is a wonderful one shoulder fitted gown, with a short train, made of brilliant white crushed velvet.
The first pic is taken without her helmet - I wanted to show her lovely face!
Her armor and accessories were created by Valkyrie - (her first foray into 1:4 scale)
Genuine brass chain-mail made from 18ga. 4mm rings,
Two belts, one of plain brown leather and one of brass studded and accented white snakeskin,
A brass bound leather scabbard, perfectly fitted to her sword,
Brass studded leather armband,
Riveted brass and white snakeskin helm accented with brass wings
and a pair of fitted boots with nail accented tops.
Her entire ensemble is fully removable, the chain mail laces up the back, belts have hand made buckles....etc.
Her Sword and Spear are *NOT* toys - they were hand made by the sword is hand ground carbon steel with a wire wrapped handle and brass pommel - the spear is hand ground stainless steel with a rabbit fur enhanced hardwood shaft. They ARE sharp!
