Ostara Germanic Goddess of the Dawn This doll is in the home of a private collector and is not available for sale or duplication

The English and German words for Easter derive from the name of the goddess Ostara, also variously called Eostre, Astarta, Oestara, etc.
Ostara is the personification of the rising sun, goddess of both dawn and springtime and considered to be a fertility goddess.
The Legend: Ostara is the friend of all children and to amuse them on the dawn of spring equinox she changed her bird into a rabbit. The rabbit then brought forth brightly colored eggs, which the goddess gave to the children as gifts. The modern tradition of the "easter bunny" and the decorated eggs hidden during easter derive from her legend!

DETAILS
Ostara's dress is completely hand stitched, from a hand drafted pattern, of bright gold crushed velvet, that precisely matches her hair. Her under-dress is of shimmery red crepe. Her headpiece is edged in fringe and sequins, and she wears both a collar and belt of fringe as well. The flame on the front of her gown is hand applique'd and edged in the same cording that edges her fully lined dagged sleeves.
Ostara's face has given a complete makeover with artist quality acrylic paints and sealer. Her hair has been permed and intricately styled.
